Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Up north of Bruma, a powerful Nord named Marlek has forged an alliance between several Skyrim bandit clans. They've moved south into Cyrodiil and are now harassing travellers and making raids into County Bruma.

There are a few ways to start this quest. The easiest is to read the notices posted in Bruma. You can also find and kill either Marlek or Vyka Herlst, the leaders; find some of the notes scattered around the bandit camps; or read a report in Cloud Ruler Temple written by one of the Blades regarding the threat. Your goal is simple: Kill Marlet and Vyka. Without them, the alliance will fall apart, and the bandit clans will retreat into Skyrim.

The clans occupy several camps in northern Cyrodiil - the Ice Dragon Clan Camp (located in the far northwest corner of Cyrodiil - this is where Marlek is); Hidden Camp (Hrun Illmouth, another clan leader, can be found here); Arctic Wolves' Clan Camp (northeast of Plundered Mine; where Vyka is found), and a small unmarked camp just west of Cloud Ruler Temple. There is no reward as such for stopping the bandit menace, but the leaders have some nice items.

The Skyrim Bandit Clans (OOOBrumaBanditTrouble)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 I have read an official warning posted in Bruma. The captain of the guard, Burd, has issued a call to the citizens of the town. He warns them against the recently heightened activity of Skyrim bandit clans. He notes that their level of organization seems out of the ordinary. They usually act without co-ordination. I have discovered a bandit camp from the Ice Dragon clan, but I did not find any useful knowledge there. Maybe I missed something? I should seek information that may help me figure out their designs.

Vyka's note to Marlek reveals that there is indeed an allegiance between clans, and that their plans extend far and wide. I should seek any information that may help me figure out their weaknesses.

Still, I should not discard the possibility that the locals may have more to reveal.

20 I have read a Blades' report about Skyrim bandit clans descending into Bruma County. Blade Ferrus informs Captain Steffan that the Blades' scouts have indentified two of these clans--the Arctic Wolves and the Three Wolves--I have found the unidentified group and their leader: Marlek of the Ice Dragon Clan. Ferrus is alarmed at their level of organization because these Nordic clans tend to be at odds with each other. He may be correct in speculating that Marlek's clan could be behind their alliance.

30 In a Skyrim bandit camp near Cloud Ruler Temple I found a note written by a bandit from a clan represented by three wolves' heads. In it, the bandit laments the actions of Vyka, leader of the Arctic Wolves, who was manipulating Marlek, the leader of the Ice Dragon clan. The message correctly notes, as I confirmed, that his camp lies northwest from the Hermaeus Mora's shrine. Perhaps Vyka's camp lies on the eastern region of the mountains, north of Dragon Claw Rock and the Silver Road.

40 I have read a letter from Vyka addressed to Marlek. She was clearly cunning, using her influence over him to steer his decisions at her will. Marlek had the strength and charisma to join several clans together, Vyka's among them. A bond between them was then born. I infer that she was persuasive and attractive in order to move Marlek to expand his original Bruma raiding plans even further south. I wonder how Vyka's defeat at my hands will influence Marlek's decisions and his want to avenge her.

50 I have defeated Vyka Herlst, a dangerous Skyrim Nord bandit leader. She was remarkably attractive, considering her way of life. Her eyes were full of pride and intelligence. Somehow I think that her demise will cause further trouble for me--she was not the kind of woman to lack grovelling men willing to sell themselves to her wishes in the hopes of winning her favour [sic]. My guess is that her impressive cape is Marlek's gift--it bears the markings of his own armor. As I learned from her note, she had a bond with Marlek.

60 I have defeated Marlek, a powerful Skyrim Nord leader--probably of the Ice Dragon Clan. His personal guard carried shields with this marking. All of them were powerful warriors, and Marlek easily was the most deadly. His shining armor helped him deflect my attacks, but clearly he did not rely solely on such fine metal-work to win his battles. Interestingly, his armor's markings are the same that adorn the cape that Vyka wore. I suspect that the clans joined under his banner, as he was charismatic and powerful.

100 Finishes quest☑ I have defeated both Marlek and Vyka, leaders of Skyrim clans. This will deal a severe blow to the northern bandits. I expect that they will retreat, for now, until they are confident enough to venture south again. Still, the full threat of Skyrim bandits is not dissolved by my actions--some activity will continue, albeit at a much lesser degree. The citizens of Bruma can resume their lives without fear now, until the next time that the clans are strong and well commanded. The Blades and Captain Burd will sleep more soundly.

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage OOOBrumaBanditTrouble stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
