Margia Sycora and her alchemist's workspace

Margia Sycora is a Breton warlock who chose to dedicate her life to alchemy studies. She lives far away from civilization, in a very hard to find cave called Git somewhere east from Old Ebonheart and north from Serynthul, an infirmary of the Temple. She is a Master Trainer of Alchemy, but her services are only unlocked if you choose to help her in the Fighters Guild quest, Cursing Like A Witch.

Her cave is very small, and only has one "room" filled with various barrels, baskets and bags with some ingredients inside. In the center there's a fireplace with a large cauldron where she seems to prepare her potions and melt ingredients. Nearby there's a bookshelf where she stores the most valuable items: professional alchemy equipment, namely Apprentice's Alembic, Apprentice's Calcinator and Apprentice's Retort, Scroll of Vaermina's Promise, a few books: On Oblivion, The Book of Daedra, The Old Ways and Scroll of Vaermina's Promise, and a chest containing more books and a set of common clothes.

Margia wears a common robe, common pants, and common shoes. She prefers to use magic in battle, though she wields an iron dagger in case the mana will run out. She knows a number of various spells: Ash Feast, Shadow Weave, Strong Resist Shock, Strong Resist Fire, Strong Resist Frost, Strong Resist Poison, Strong Resist Magicka, Variable Resist Magicka, Variable Resist Frost, Variable Resist Fire, Seryn's Blessing, Vitality and Wild Earwig.

As revealed in the Fighters Guild's quest, Margia probably wronged some vengeful noble, and he put the bounty on her head. This bounty was such important that the guild's Protector, Foedus Locutius, went after her head himself but failed the mission as Margia cursed him using a powerful spell, putting a Vermai named Vhal'baan inside his body. Currently there are no clues who was the noble who put the bounty and why he wanted Margia dead (see Cursing Like A Witch quest page for details). If you agree to help her and spare her life during the quest, she will be able to offer you her Master-level services in Alchemy training.

Notes[edit]

  • In-game files contain two different versions of Margia, with TR_m3_Margia_Sycora_Tr being the Master Trainer.

Dialogue[edit]

  • Greetings:
    • "What business brings you here? Please make it quick, I'm a very busy alchemist."

  • Foedus's curse: "Foedus? Was he the brute who knocked over my ingredients and tracked mud into my cave? I'm sure Vhal'baan is having a great time inside him. He thinks I'm a witch? Hah! I am Margia Sycora, the greatest alchemist this side of the Thirr. I'll make a deal with you. If you agree to find out who placed a bounty on my head, I'll give you a potion to cure your precious Foedus, and I'll even train you in alchemy, for a price."
    • I'll help you: "Excellent. Take this potion and force it down his throat. Be ready for a battle -- I can't think of any daedra who likes being evicted forcibly. Come back when you find out who wanted me dead so badly."
    • No deal: "Then you won't be getting any potion out of me. Come back when you tire of his present state."
    • (after the uncurse potion is delivered to Foedus): "Foedus wants me dead? Understandable. Daedric possession is very painful, I assure you. What if you were to take my broomstick as proof of my demise? I'm not a witch, mind you; it has no purpose to me besides clearing out the occasional cobweb. Does that sound agreeable to you?"
    • Yes: "Take this back to the fool. Tell him I put up quite a fight, but I was no match for such a brave warrior. That should sate him."
    • I think I'll just kill you instead. [Attack]: "You ungrateful, small-minded, maggot-eating bastard!"
    • (during the investigations of the origins of the bounty): "Have you found out who ordered my killing? You made a deal, after all."
    • (after the quest is completed): "Yes, the "curse" has been lifted."
  • my trade: "I'm a warlock. I have bound myself by oath and deed to the service of a Daedra lord, and in return have received gifts of knowledge and power. The Temple calls my patrons the bad Daedra, and perhaps they aren't very nice... but I guess I'm not very nice, either. If you are curious, and not afraid, I can tell you a little about the bad Daedra and Daedric summonings."
  • someone important: "Names, I need names! Who placed the bounty on my head?"
    • Indoril Ilvi: "Indoril Ilvi? How would he even know who I am? I haven't done anything to cross the Indoril...yet. I've been on this side of the Thirr for a month and already gotten a death warrant! Ah well, thank you, %PCname, you've upheld your end of the deal. If you need training in alchemy, I'll agree to teach you for a price."
    • (after the quest is completed): "Thank you, %PCname, you've upheld your end of the deal. If you need any training in alchemy, I'll be here."
