Bug - Lakeview Manor[edit]
If anyone encounters the bug regarding purchasing land for Lakeview Manor, please post some additional information here. Did you complete the quest before or after installing Hearthfire? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin? Tingz0r (talk) 01:25, 3 November 2012 (GMT)
- I'm pretty sure I have that bug. Nenya will not offer me the land. I completed the Kill Helvard quest long before installing Hearthfire. And, I'm not sure I can uninstall the plug-in?--I'm on Xbox. If there's a way to do it, please advise. Thanks. Oshaugm (talk) 11:56, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

- The issue is caused by Relationship Rank changes, so I'm not sure that uninstalling and reinstalling would actually help. You have to have a relationship of at least 3 with the jarl of the hold to purchase the homestead, and completing Kill Helvard lowers the relationship rank with Siddgeir. So you must either raise his disposition somehow or cause Dengeir of Stuhn to become jarl (through civil war choices) and buy it from him. — ABCface◥ 14:09, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

- I ran into this. I'm on PC and had Hearthfire installed when I started this character. I don't know if it's necessarily a bug or not (I killed Helvard, so he is rightfully not happy with me), but it happened to me. I completed the entire Dark Brotherhood quest line. Then I decided I would try out Hearthfire later on and decided on Lakeview Manor. I had a quest to speak to the Jarl of Falkreath. I think it was from a letter from a courier. I spoke to the Jarl, but he was quite rude and there was no option to speak of the letter he sent me. I guess he was rude because I killed Helvard, which is reasonable. The only thing that's not reasonable about it is that I did it secretly in stealth (no bounty), so technically they shouldn't know it was me that did it. Anyway, I checked the relationship with the console and it was -2. I set it to +1 and now I had the ability to speak to the Jarl about the letter I received from him. He sent me to kill the bandit leader in Embershard mine near the standing stones. I did that, went back, and he said that I can now purchase property and offered to make me thane if I assist 3 people in Falkreath. I guess you need a positive relationship rank with him to talk about the courier letter and proceed normally. I checked this page to see if there was mention that doing this quest could make it difficult or impossible to buy Lakeview Manor. Glad to see it's on there. --Ignotus (talk) 00:52, 4 April 2013 (GMT)

Keep disposition with Siddgeir[edit]
One method for circumventing the disposition damage from killing Helvard is to start, but not complete the Thane of Falkreath quest. Kill Helvard with the quest active, then turn in the quest. This has strange, mixed effects on Siddgeir's disposition. The console says is rank is 3 (ally), as usual after the thane quest. However his dialogue is neutral as if you had not done any quests. For looting, it's as if he's level 2 (confidant), allowing items of up to 50 gold to be taken. It's a lot of mixed signals and I'm not sure exactly what's going on. But it's an improvement over being stuck at the -2 (foe) level. Best to do the delivery quest for Thadgeir and both of Dengeir's quests first as well. Side note: Since the random choice of the Blade of Falkreath appears to be determined when you first arrive in Falkreath, it's not really practical to manipulate it, and effectively not a concern when deciding how to time this quest. --Olaus (talk) 04:21, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Civil War[edit]
It's probably worth noting that if Falkreath has changed hands due to the Civil War Helvard will be in the basement of the Blue Palace with the other exiled jarls and their retinues. This can make the quest considerably more difficult as it's harder to achieve a stealth kill and he has a lot of potential allies.--Draugluin (talk) 05:22, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Are you sure that's vanilla gameplay? He's not on the list of Blue Palace exiles. —Legoless (talk) 11:30, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- That's definitely where I found him. All the other exiled jarls are joined by their housecarls so it would make sense, but it might have been added by the Unofficial Patch. It was a while ago, but I don't think I was using any other mods that could have affected something like that.--Draugluin (talk) 15:11, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
