Sister Celdina is a high-ranking Breton cultist of the Order of the Waking Flame who had a close association with Emperor Moricar. Following the demise of the original high priest, she now leads the Order from Deadlight and other outposts like the Fargrave Conclave. Her leadership has been instrumental in constructing Cataclysts needed to bring forth Incarnates, a project which Valkynaz Nokvroz has been asked by Dagon to work with her on.

Quest-Related Events[edit]
The Key and the Cataclyst[edit]
After you have successfully infiltrated the Fargrave Conclave with Lyranth pretending to be your prisoner, you can overhear the Valkynaz speaking with Sister Celdina:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "After the failure at the Dread Cellar, your Fargrave cataclyst must perform as promised, Celdina."
- Sister Celdina: "The device will work as intended, Nokvroz. Ah, here comes the devastator now."
Celdina must be spoken to once you enter the Waking Flame Base to continue the quest:
- "Devastator Rullen. I assume the blade did its job? Of course it did. How else could you capture Lyranth the Dremora. She has been a thorn in our side for much too long. Well done!
But what about the portal key? Were you able to recover it?" - The portal key and Lyranth. For you, Sister Celdina.
- "A remarkable achievement, devastator. And fortunate, as well. We're about to perform another test with the Fargrave cataclyst, and Nokvroz is hesitant to provide me with any more of his precious Daedra.
Lyranth should do very nicely." - The Fargrave cataclyst will perform admirably, I'm sure.
- "I hope that's not skepticism or sarcasm I hear in your voice, devastator. I get enough of that from Nokvroz.
Despite the setback at the Dread Cellar, I have every faith in the device. Soon we will unleash an army of living disasters upon Nirn!" - Living disasters?
- "Did your doombringer tell you nothing? The cataclyst enhances Daedra. Transforms them into incarnates of disasters.
First we take control of this pitiful demiplane, then we launch our assault using Fargrave's connections to Nirn." - A worthy plan, Sister Celdina.
- "Worthy? It is brilliant! Sentries, take the Dremora and place her in the cataclyst.
Devastator, enter the cataclyst chamber when you're ready. Then the demonstration will begin!"
She will take Lyranth and leave. When you follow them into the Cataclyst chamber, Sister Celdina will have a special honor for you:
- Sister Celdina: "Come, Devastator Rullen! For your excellent service to the order, I award you with the privilege of activating the Fargrave cataclyst!"
Once you reach the machine, Sister Celdina will instruct you on what to do:
- Sister Celdina: "Touch the rune and witness the transformative power of the cataclyst! Lord Dagon's blessing will turn Lyranth into disaster incarnate!"
- Lyranth: "Do what you must, flea. Lyranth is ready."
Once you touch the rune, Lyranth will free herself and attempt to disrupt the cataclyst:
- Lyranth: "I have seen enough! I will be free!"
- <Lyranth fires her magic into the heart of the machine. Lightning begins sparking from it.>
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "The Dremora damaged the cataclyst! Duke of Fire, destroy them!"
- Sister Celdina: "Shut it down! We must preserve the cataclyst!"
After defeating the Duke of Fire, you and Lyranth can escape. As you leave Valkynaz Nokvroz will pronounce the cataclyst as lost to Celdina.
The Celestial Palanquin[edit]
After arriving in Fargrave, you will quickly be embroiled in finding and stopping a Waking Flame plot against the city. Your investigation will lead to work with the Anchorite and reunite with Lyranth, and you find out that Sister Celdina is behind this plan and that you need to stop her ritual. Entering the Bathhouse Auditorium, you may notice the various daedric critters in the area explode into clouds of ash as you get closer.
Sister Celdina will be standing on the platform above you as portals appear behind her and reinforcements arrive. She will recognize Lyranth immediately:
- Sister Celdina: "The Dremora again! Well, you're too late. The ritual is almost complete!"
Sister Celdina raises her hands in the air and a fiery mass appears above her. The screen will blur and be tinged red and there will be strange sounds, Lyranth and the Anchorite will begin clutching their heads in pain.
- Sister Celdina: "Dagon's blessing reverberates among the votive runes. Soon, a wave of destruction will sweep over Fargrave and destroy the Daedra!"
- The Anchorite: "The spell … what's happening to us?"
- Lyranth: "Mortal, destroy the votive runes!"
While you destroy the three votive runes in the area, the Waking Flame cultists will try to stop you. Sister Celdina will call out to you as you destroy each one:
- Sister Celdina: "Stop! The ritual must destroy the Daedra! My plan depends upon it!"
- Sister Celdina: "Your efforts are futile, fool! Lord Dagon himself taught me this ritual!"
- Sister Celdina: "Waking Flame, protect the votive runes!"
When you destroy the third votive rune, the ritual will be stopped. Sister Celdina will blame Lyranth before teleporting away:
- Sister Celdina: "All that work, ruined. You will pay for that Dremora. You and your companions both!"
- <Sister Celdina teleports away.>
- The Anchorite: "Sister Celdina got away and we're right back where we started. Nowhere!"
- Lyranth: "Nowhere? How quickly mortals succumb to despair. Let's talk in the next room."
Destruction Incarnate[edit]
While venturing inside Burning Gyre Keep, she will be heard conversing with Valkynaz Nokvroz:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "Was such a display really necessary, Celdina?"
- Sister Celdina: "You required a demonstration of the power of an Incarnate, Nokvroz. Your Daedra will reform. Eventually."
When you enter outside of a nearby balcony, you'll notice an Incarnate being channeled by Dremora Conjurers:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "You put much faith in these abominations, Celdina."
- Sister Celdina: "With the Riven Cataclyst, Fargrave will fall. And then Nirn."
As you venture down the hallways, she'll continue bickering with Nokvroz:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "They chased you out of Fargrave once. How many more failures must you endure, Celdina?"
- Sister Celdina: "Careful, Nokvroz, or perhaps I'll point my Incarnate at your direction."
Once you enter in the inner wards of the keep, Nokvroz and Celdina will be alerted. The Incarnate will attack you:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "I sense…intruders in the keep."
- Sister Celdina: "Lyranth and her minions. Incarnate, destroy them!"
Defeat the Incarnate, she will flee into a portal with Nokvroz:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "The Incarnate failed, Celdina. You failed. Again!"
- Sister Celdina: "You see failure, I see opportunity. Let's head to the Riven Cataclyst. I have a legion of Incarnates to create!"
- Lyranth: "We should leave, too. Quickly, mortals, into the portal!"
Born of Grief[edit]
When you're tracking down Valkynaz Nokvroz and Sister Celdina in Fort Grief, you'll overhear Sister Celdina:
- Sister Celdina: "You do not command here, Nokvroz. I take no orders from you."
- The Anchorite: "Sister Celdina and Nokvroz! They're in the chamber below!"
As you got closer to the chambers:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "Your mortal hubris amuses me, Celdina, but Lord Dagon has no further need of you."
- Sister Celdina: "You lie! You cannot create the Incarnates without me!"
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "You do not think so? No matter. I am done with your demands and posturing."
As you advance closer to the chamber, you'll fight more Waking Flame Cultists:
- Waking Flame Whirlwind: "Intruders! Stop them!"
Once you get past the Waking Flame Cultist defenses, she will have one final spat with Nokvroz before he leaves:
- Valkynaz Nokvroz: "I am leaving, Celdina. I am done with you."
- Sister Celdina: "Then go! Lord Dagon will reward my devotion! You'll see!"
Once she sees you, Rynkyus and the Anchorite, she'll order her Incarnate to attack you:
- Sister Celdina: "Intruders? Good! You will fall before the power of my newest Incarnate!"
- Sister Celdina: "Destroy them, my beautiful creation!"
In the chamber, Celdina will summon the Incarnate. You and your party quickly try to find a way to defeat it:
- The Anchorite: "The Incarnate's drawing power from the cataclyst! I'll try to stop the flow!"
- The Anchorite: "There must be a switch or something!"
- Rynkyus: "There! Those look vulnerable!"
- Sister Celdina: "Such pointless courage. Who hides behind that mask?"
Destroy one of the crystals:
- Storm Incarnate: "Raaargh!"
- Rynkyus: "Mortal! Take shelter under my shield!"
- The Anchorite: "The cataclyst is healing that thing!"
- Sister Celdina: "Fools. You cannot defeat disaster incarnate!"
And another one:
- Rynkyus: "Mortal, my shield will protect you!"
- The Anchorite: "Keep the Incarnate busy! I'll figure out something!"
- The Anchorite: "How do I stop this damned contraption?"
- Sister Celdina: "How are you taking control of the cataclyst? That's not possible!"
Continue to destroy crystals and wear down the Incarnate, until:
- The Anchorite: "No more of this! I think I can release the core!"
- Sister Celdina: "I'll kill you all for this affront!"
Deadlight[edit]
When you reach Deadlight's inner sanctum, the Anchorite wants you to examine items associated with her memories. You will soon find out more about the Anchorite's past. The Anchorite will start to weave a spell, then clasps her head:
- The Anchorite: "Ahh! It's too much! Do you see them? Hurry and take a closer look."
Examine the Reach Blood Totem:
- Sister Celdina: "Do you know why I brought you here, Novice Mairead?"
- The Anchorite: "I … I do not, Revered Sister."
- Sister Celdina: "Because I could not leave you in isolation any longer. You must know the truth. You are the daughter of Emperor Moricar. And I am your mother."
- Sister Celdina: "We will finish your training here. Do not disappoint me."
Examine the Starry Globe:
- Sister Celdina: "When Magnus saw the mortal world was flawed, he abandoned its creation. Foolishly, the other gods proceeded and doomed us to suffering. Learn this well. Joy is an illusion. Love is a lie."
- The Anchorite: "What became of Magnus, mother?"
- Sister Celdina: "Magnus watches from the sun, waiting to repair what the others set amiss. You will give him that chance, Mairead. Everything depends on you."
Examine The Last Hope Mural:
- The Anchorite: "I don't understand the lesson of this tapestry. What does it mean?"
- Sister Celdina: "Mehrunes Dagon stands before Magnus as a weapon of hope. He possesses the power to shatter the mortal world so it can be remade."
- Sister Celdina: "But a spark within the world is required to summon Dagon's cleansing fire from Oblivion. You, my child, will be that spark."
- The Anchorite: "No, mother … I … I can't do that."
- Sister Celdina: "You dare deny your destiny, Mairead? The blood of emperors flows through your veins. This is your purpose. You will see it done."'
Once the Anchorite finds out about her past, she's rushes to confront her mother but ends up being binded:
- Sister Celdina: "I remember! Mairead! Together we can destroy Nirn and set everything aright!"
- The Anchorite: "Set aright? I refuse to be your weapon, mother. I'm here to stop you!"
- Sister Celdina: "Foolish girl. You do not know what you are—and I do not need your cooperation. You must submit!"
The Anchorite spots your approach and you soon fight Sister Celdina:
- The Anchorite: "I should have waited for you … you have to stop her!"
- Sister Celdina: "You dare turn my daughter against me? You will be cleansed in the fire that remakes the world!"
- Sister Celdina: "Fool! You cannot stop what is coming!"
Lectures[edit]
Hellfire and Brimstone[edit]
Sister Celdina's lectures in the Brandfire Reformatory grant the Hellfire and Brimstone achievement, and provide insight into her beliefs.
First Lecture:
- Sister Celdina: "To the postulates and prodigal returned. Rejoice! You are on the path toward kindling the flame that longs to burn in your heart."
- Sister Celdina: "As Dagon's hands are destined to cleanse existence with the fires of his truth, we are tasked with rendering all that is impure in your very core to ash."
- Sister Celdina: "Keep an open mind. For the lies you have been fed will cause you to reject reality's true teachings."
- Sister Celdina: "You are not alone. I will accompany you throughout every step of your journey. Be diligent and together, we will burn in his name."
Second Lecture:
- Sister Celdina: "Postulates and prodigals returned, rely not only on the word and thought—for they can be spun into lies. Trust in the truth of lash, brand, scourge, and burn."
- Sister Celdina: "The lessons learned through pain are lasting. Master the will to stand in the face of suffering and no torment shall hold power over you."
- Sister Celdina: "You think the world was a fair place. Think on your own pain. There are infants who have suffered more. How can a world be just?"
- Sister Celdina: "How can a world which causes you such suffering be just? It cannot. The world is flawed but once it is tempered in flames, it can arise, purified of all imperfections."
Third Lecture:
- Sister Celdina: "Postulates and prodigals returned, you come to this step of your journey filled with the painful memories of all you knew before."
- Sister Celdina: "Those who eschew Mehrunes Dagon's leadership hold the lofty ideology that there is good on Nirn. They believe that one patch of barley in a rotting field saves a farmer from scorn, shame, and hunger."
- Sister Celdina: "One flower in a dung heap does not improve the smell. Since there is suffering, how can Tamriel be worth retaining?"
- Sister Celdina: "Break from those beliefs. Work to raze the established order so it can be rebuilt, and know peace."
Fourth Lecture:
- Sister Celdina: "If you have progressed this far, resplendent postulates and prodigals returned, then the spark in your soul blazes ferociously."
- Sister Celdina: "The Flame you've awoken will burn in many hearths. I know that you will make myself and the Prince of Destruction very happy with your performance."
- Sister Celdina: "You have successfully burnt your weakness. Continue to feed your doubts to the fire of your fervor and you will not disappoint."
- Sister Celdina: "Now it is time to say farewell. Should we never meet again, know that I am proud to have you behind me, marching to bring about the age of Dagon. Our time is coming. The flame wakes."
Notes[edit]
- Celdina's position in the Waking Flame is documented in books, going from Disastrix, to Doombringer, and eventually to her current title of Revered Sister (and de facto High Priest).
- She is based on an earlier concept of a cut character from the Imperial City DLC named Proserpina Sylla, who was the Emperor's mistress that carried his child, with the story retooled to better fit the Gates of Oblivion storyline.
