Quest-Related Events[edit]
The basin of suffering is to the right and north of Rahaja and the center pool. You drink some of the water and see a vision.
- Lamae Bal: "When I was a priestess of Arkay, Molag Bal ravaged me and left me for dead. A group of nomads tried to purify me with fire. But I awoke… changed."
- Selenu: "The poor girl. May these flames purify her spirit."
- Vraseth: "Elder, what do you believe happened to her?"
- Selenu: "Her body was… mangled, rent [sic] apart by a terrible darkness. Its corruption is still on her. I can feel it."
- Vraseth: "Is it true her wounds healed on their own?"
- Selenu: "Yes. This is why I insisted we perform this rite at once."
- Lyrezi: "Elder! The girl!"
- Selenu: "No. We're too late.
- Selenu: "No! back away!"
Head to the southern pillar where blue flames burn on top of a symbol of Molag Bal's face.
- Lamae Bal: "Molag Bal, Father of Torment, we curse you! You sought to poison us with your blood."
- Lamae Bal: "But we survived. And from your poison, we grew."
- Lamae Bal: "King of Corruption, your children are coming. They will defile and destroy you."
In the other northern corner of the room is the basin of loss.
- "When I saw what I had done, I called out to my god, Arkay. I prayed that he would rid me of Molag Bal's curse. But Arkay did not answer."
Drinking from it reveals another vision, where Lamae emerges from a fire surrounded by drained Nomads.
- Lamae Bal: "Arkay! Answer me! I am your priestess! Answer!"
- Lamae Bal: "Molag Bal said you would not come."
- Lamae Bal: "He said you turned your light away from me."
- Lamae Bal: "Arkay! Do you hear me? You are false! I reject you!"
Across from Molag Bal's destroyed symbol is the symbol of Arkay. When profaning it, Lamae will say:
- Lamae Bal: "Arkay the Forsaker, we curse you! You left us to suffer in darkness."
- Lamae Bal: "But we survived. And in darkness we grew."
- Lamae Bal: "Now, we feed upon your followers. We will use their stolen strength to conquer and consume you."
When the ritual is over, Lamae calls for you.
- Lamae Bal: "Initiate. Kneel in the black pool and submit yourself to me."
Upon entering the black pool, Lamae will arrive in person and have her followers exsanguinate you. She then weaves her hands and casts a spell on you:
- Lamae Bal: "Children, this is your kin. Life still flows within its blood."
- Lamae Bal: "Tear it out. Drain it, so that it may join us."
- Lamae Bal: "Now, you are one of us."
She gives you a task after you have been transformed.
- Lamae Bal: "I offer you a gift. The catacombs are filled with the Defiler's cultists. Fresh blood."
- Lamae Bal: "Sneak up behind your prey and feast. Relish your new powers. Embrace my blessing."
When you speak to her before killing the cultists, she will only say:
- "Drink deep from my gift."
She sends you to kill the cultists:
- Lamae Bal: "Punish the servants of Molag Bal, child. They cower below."
- Lamae Bal: "Behold, a lamb fit only for slaughter. Eviscerate it!"
- Lamae Bal: "Evisceration trades pain for pain, child. The more grievous your wounds, the more pain you inflict. Remember this."
- Lamae Bal: "This pathetic churl squanders its life. Drain it from them in my name!"
- Lamae Bal: "Draining a foe's essence allows you to mend your wounds. Put their miserable lives to good use."
- Lamae Bal: "More weak-minded cattle. Mesmerize it. Bend it to your will."
- Lamae Bal: "Now, kill these worms until your blood quickens. Call upon my power to unleash your true form!"
- Lamae Bal: "Yes. Mortals quake at the approach of a Blood Scion. You have done well, child. Return to my sanctum."
Afterwards, you will return to the pool, and speak to Lamae Bal:
- "My beautiful abomination, how you shine in the dark. Now listen. I must warn you."
- Speak, and I will listen.
- "Relish this new life I have given you. Feed and grow powerful. Find others of our kind. Form families. Bring new children into the fold!"
She rewards you with the Vampire skill line.
Before you leave, you can ask her about your new abilities:
- "Your kin live among the mortals. They may be wearing rags or crowns. They may hide within or rise above the masses.
Find them. They await" - Mother Lamae, would you tell me more about the gifts you've given me?
- "Of course, child. All who bear my blessing should know their powers well."
- How does my thirst influence the gifts you've given me?
- "An excellent question. For many of my children, greater thirst reveals greater power. Starvation makes their hearts boil over—heated by the cursed flames that brought me to new life.
I have other plans for you, scion." - What do you mean?
- "Our kind grow more cautious with each passing year. More hesitant. Like great serpents, they feed only once in a great while—barely slaking their thirst for fear of discovery. This displeases me.
You, child. You will embrace your ravening nature." - So I will become stronger by feeding?
- "Indeed. By blood, and sorcery, and accursed rite, I proclaim a new breed of evil. You shall wander the shadows of Tamriel like a bottomless vessel—a child of hunger and delight.
Drink deep from the world, and you shall be rewarded."
- "An excellent question. For many of my children, greater thirst reveals greater power. Starvation makes their hearts boil over—heated by the cursed flames that brought me to new life.
- Can I use all the gifts you've given me right away?
- "No, my child. I gave you a taste of the power you will one day wield, but once you return to the surface, your memories of this place will diminish.
Do not despair. With time and experience, you will master all the vampiric arts." - Once I grow in power, how many powers will I wield?
- "No less than you deserve, and no more than you can bear.
You will command an array of abilities. Some let you influence the minds of the weak, others let you wrench their life away. All inspire a terror no mortal heart can bear." - What about my "true form?" The Blood Scion?
- "Yes, my greatest blessing.
A handful of greater vampires lay claim to a twisted shape gifted to them by the Defiler. Why should my children not possess such horror-wrought strength? In you, we shall see this form perfected."
- "No, my child. I gave you a taste of the power you will one day wield, but once you return to the surface, your memories of this place will diminish.
- Can I share these powers with others?
- "Not yet. But with patience and bloodshed it will become possible.
Once you display sufficient mastery of your powers and true devotion to me, your ability to pass on my gifts to others will manifest." - Do I simply bite them?
- "No. Gifts of this magnitude require the weight of ritual.
You must find a site that carries my dark blessing. Only then will your inheritor draw my gaze. Know this: the process takes a toll. Several days must pass before you can infect another."
- "Not yet. But with patience and bloodshed it will become possible.
