Walkthrough[edit]

While searching for a way out of Mephala's realm, you come to the High Temple of Ash'uhn. The temple is sealed (of course) and also guarded by a huge worm called a guatarru, placed there by Mephala himself. Lucky for you, you happen to know someone who might be able to help - a fighter at the Arena named Morbelln. He has a tablet with information, and is willing to give it up if you defeat him in a match. If you do so, he'll hand it over.

The tablet tells of a way to kill guatarrus - you need to make a special poison, which includes the head of a giant sand dreugh. It can be found wandering the desert along the west coast (a quest marker will point the way). Once you have it and the other ingredients, you can brew the poison. After that, it's just a matter of getting yourself swallowed whole by the guatarru. Once you kill it and it spits you back out, you have to take the heart and place it in a recess near the door, then the door will open.

Proceed into the temple. The rest of it is pretty easy to figure out.

Journal Entries[edit]

The High Temple (ODDDesertHTQuest)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 The gate to the High Temple is closed. But there is a recess; maybe I have to insert something specific to open the gate? A sort of key or something else that triggers the opening mechanism. Who could help me here? Perhaps there is no one left today who can remember this temple at all. Perhaps one of the treasure hunters at the Arena or in the secluded bar has something that will help me further here? or
Oh Mephala! What was THAT? A... worm? It hasn't caught me. Lucky, I'd say. Maybe it'll help if I sneak in the vicinity of the temple?
15 One of the fighters in the Arena may have something that will help me to get into the rock temple in the north. He rambled on a bit about a tablet. I just have to put five hundred gold coins in the barrel and defeat him in the ring to take the part.
20 The tablet describes how to kill a giant worm, a so-called guatarru. I have to make an expensive poison from three spider venom glands, five cactus spines, and the head of a giant sand dreugh. Then I have to let myself be swallowed by the guatarru and then poison the giant worm's heart using the mixed liquid. It all seems quite simple. So I'll get the spines and glands, and then the head.
25 I have collected the three spider venom glands and the cactus spines. All that remains now is a giant sand dreugh's head - only, where I can find such a beast? So far, I have never seen or heard of the existence of such an animal at all. Maybe I'll find it in Bam G'nur in the far west. Many ordinary sand dreughs are at least rumored to be found there.
30 I have the giant sand dreugh's head. It's time to mix the poison at an alchemy table. With an empty bottle and some pure alcohol, it shouldn't be a problem.
35 I've produced the poison which will help kill the guatarru, the giant sand worm. However, I can imagine that it's been a pretty damn long time since the last time anyone tried to destroy such a worm. Maybe it no longer even works today, because the sand dreugh was not big enough, or other cacti are required. Well, it doesn't help. If I want to get into the temple, I have to try, even if it costs me my head.
40 I killed the worm. And it spat me out of its dying body with the last of its strength. Then I found myself in the sand in front of the High Temple.
45 What now? The worm is indeed dead in front of me, but the gate to the temple is still locked. Hm, maybe I'll find something in the worm that will open the temple?
50 I've taken the worm's heart.
55 Nothing happened! But I killed the damn worm beast! Wait! Over there, the niche in the rock looks like the guatarru's heart would fit in it exactly.
60 Finally! I am in the High Temple. It seems to be deserted. The massive worm at the gate really did a great job. No one must have been here for centuries. Not even the soft click of sandcrawlers can be heard, usually downright scary.
65 There are no fires burning anywhere. Everything is quiet. Downright scary. In order not to get lost, maybe I should kindle any torches and braziers that I see on my way.
70 This must once have been an important place - at least, the great throne over there gives that impression. Perhaps someone here received guests or heard petitioners. Anyway, it has to go deeper into the temple somewhere. I'll look around a bit.
75 Blood! Fresh blood. Where could that come from? It seems like I'm not as alone here as I thought. I should be careful.
80 Was there something? There was something! I'm sure I saw a shadow that disappeared in the left aisle there behind the grate.
85 I put a stone on a strange altar, triggering a mechanism. It didn't do anything else, though.
90 I put another stone on a strange altar.
95 Ghouls! I knew that I wasn't alone in here. They must have entered a long time ago, but how? They hardly could've gotten past the giant worm. Puzzling.
100 Using the Eye Stone, I set an ancient mechanism in motion and thus opened the door to an area where no one has set foot for a long time.
105 Mephala has spoken to me. However, he was still angry. Hopefully I can get out of here in one piece. or
Mephala has spoken to me. The Daedra told me the story of the temple. How Delosi, the High Priest, offended Mephala by transforming Dunmer and abusing temple His as a breeding ground for his creatures. As punishment, he sealed Delosi in here and set a guatarru to guard the temple's entrance. Mephala wants to punish me because I killed the guatarru and thus haven't respected Mephala's edict about Delosi's captivity.
110 Delosi! The temple's High Priest, who brought cruel terror over Ash'uhn in his lifetime. He wants to kill me and escape the walls of our prison with my heart.
120 By the gods! This High Priest was an exceptionally resilient opponent. But now he lies dead.
125 I opened a door that apparently leads to Delosi's refuge.
130 As it stands, the High Priest Delosi has been intently reseaching a way to escape from his prison for some time. However, he hasn't succeeded, because he lacks the crucial ingredient. The blood from the guatarru's heart. But... I have exactly this ingredient in my possession, since I cut out the worm's heart. Maybe I can thus complete the brew?
135 It worked! The rock wall has been breached. The blood of the guatarru actually tipped the scales.
140 Finishes quest☑ Outside at last. After a long time under the mountain, it's nice to to see the face of Mephala's wilderness again. The High Temple of Ash'uhn and its dark past are finally behind me.or
Outside at last. After a long time under the mountain, it's nice to to see the face of Mephala's wilderness again. However, I fear that the Daedra now has another reason to be angry with me.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ODDDesertHTQuest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
