A Treasure Hunter's Note

(0106046E)

[This note is so hastily written that each letter almost completely overlaps. The author seems to have acted in haste and without any consideration for readability.]
I was able to slam the door behind me at the last second. The mummy's arm stretched after my sleeve. By Mephala, that was close!
The door is closed properly and the undead cannot walk through walls. For now, I'm safe.
It beats furiously against the door, but I'll hold out here until the morning comes. Then I'll sneak to the silver mine in the west and go to the track nearby that I found. The sword simply MUST be there.
Hey, did the shadow over there just move?

Abbot's Request

(01006CE1)

Greetings, stranger.
Due to a vow of silence, we cannot talk to you. However, I have a question for you. Bring 7 bottles of water for my brothers and me. I will reward you well for it.
Thank you in advance.

About Grave Fennel

(0105B7EE)

About Grave Fennel
It has long been the custom in parts of the Empire to bury the deceased with this plant. Grave fennel is not only known for its healing properties, but also for the soothing smell that it gives off. It is rumored that the plant would therefore used to overpower the stench of decay in some crypts.
But only in the fire do the herbs have their full effect: if dried grave fennel is burned, it gives off a healing, fragrant smoke that can deter even undead creatures.
Isolated and sometimes very strange events are reported that are said to have sometimes caused the smoke. Whether or not there is actually a kind of hidden higher magic behind the plant that is actually able to affect the environment, has not yet been clarified beyond doubt.

Aedrus' Letter

(010524CA)

Dear Grandfather,
I write in the greatest danger. On my way to Bravil I was overcome by a gang of rebels. The magician who led them threatened to kill me if I did not obey. He grabbed my face and looked deep into my eyes. I was dizzy and my heart began frantically knocking.
When I came to my senses, I looked into my own face! This Dagon-cursed mage has turned into me. I mean, he stole my face. Reproduced. I do not know! I am completely upset, still cannot really grasp what is actually happening here.
For he is still here. With me in the guild. I had to pretend he was my twin brother. I think he wants to spy on the Mages Guild.
I tried to tell a mage, but they all seem to be busy here with other things. They have not even been listening to me. In addition, the rebel is constantly in my area and casts frightening looks at me. Please help me, Grandfather. I'm scared to death.
Your only grandson
Aedrus
P.S.: Yesterday I had to get him an ingredient from his pack and I discovered this one map. In my delusion I have pocketed it. If he finds it on me, he will kill me. For sure!

Alberto & Relsav's Correspondence

(01010320)

[The paper is old and yellowed, the writing almost impossible to decipher. A paragraph from the message is copied with fresh ink, beneath with a correspondence has been set:]
Yeah, you can talk on his behalf! For you that's empty talk, because you don't have to deal with this fleabag. To the slavedriver with him, and all his glue-paws! If you don't want to do anything about it, even if it's your duty, then I have to get it done. This filcher won't get into my box, therefore I'll be prepared.
Note Alberto: He has made sure of it. I've been working on it for a month, but it does not want to open for shit. I tell you, the scroll is the key, and it looks like you need four of them. Where are the other three? The desert nomad knows.
Note Relsav: Simply break the box and you're done.
Note Alberto: Do you think I'm stupid? I've been taking the crowbar to it for a long time. Apparently it is a spell that has roasted the contenders to nothing. Mephala take me if you ever get the crate, Relsav.
Note Relsav: And the master thief curses himself.

Altar Ceremony

(01026AFA)

[The parchment is in excellent condition and, actually, the writing should have no blemishes, but strangely it is weathered and only partially decipherable.]
The sacred altar for the ceremony is de- ... ...

However, note that only a devotee of the essences ...... others would crumble to dust...

Ancient Parchment

(010435BF)

In a secret chamber I had to commit the horrible act; only my own imminent death let me endure what I saw every night in my dreams, and every minute in my eyes.
The Pharaoh has commanded it. It was my sacred duty to perform the act. We all have fallen before Mephala in disgrace, have acted wickedly and have to pay for it. Also, the fruit of our loins is tainted by this sacrilege and so must pass away too.
But why did the lot have to fall on me? They took their mothers, they went in that hidden chamber here in the Temple of Tongues and gave me the weapon to judge them.
I have cruel guilt loaded on me - much more cruel than that which I had to wear. In the sacred words of Ayhamli, spare me, Mephala.
[Barely legible handwriting is written underneath:]
Let those who are buried in the pointed monument walk on forever. I curse the pharaoh and his court. Of course, the servants had to be buried with him in the pyramid, but also their children? What a cruelty! For this, they should pay. Mephala, all-powerful is he, will punish them for it.

Announcement1

(01085041)

Listen, Andalis' Men!
Somewhere in Kathar there is a rat hole, which the guild is smoking out. A rat hole filled with dishonorable thieves. These miserable worms dare to steal from us. Us! The Assassins.
They steal slaves. Give them water. Send them to freedom. And worse.
Find them. Kill them. Show them what it means to steal from Andalis' Men!

Draft of a Letter

(01060F4E)

Clemente,
You do not know me, but my concern is of utmost importance. Don't shove my message aside as you are wont to do with ordinary petitions.
I... am... a type of chronicler. As such, I have discovered something amazing. Below your mine, what your slaves call 'Dead Mine', is the entrance to a... grave. I must insist that you grant me access to it.
Otherwise, I'll see to it myself that your mine is forced to close.
Ihoar

Farewell Letter

(0106D20E)

Don't look for me! I'm old enough and can take care of myself. Do you hear, Londrinus? I'm not a little girl anymore.
And that's important here. You have long cared for me; I am grateful to you, but now it's time to leave the nest. I just have to find him.
Larsa

High Priest's Note

(0105A62E)

... tears, but all desire does not help; my mistakes must be atoned for. Mephala is my master. ...
... no longer sufficient. I can no longer bear the sight of the misshapen bodies of my servants. They are ghouls, but their minds are so small that they do not understand even a word of command from me. ...
... have released them into the temple. This is no longer a prison for them, but I must here alone listening to the echo of my thoughts. But Mephala will have mercy, when he sees how compassionate I am. The ghouls allowed to live, but no longer exist as slaves. The Mephala, the wise, gracious, MUST agree....
... does nothing. HE gives me neither death nor freedom. I cannot!
... free myself. Against Mephala's will, I will catapult myself out. I'll place myself against His will, deride him, laugh at him. Ha, ha, ha.
... is not working. Without such an ingredient, the sud lacks the explosive power to break the chains that keep me here. The brick walls will not withstand it, but the rock that surrounds the entire temple is too solid.
... ingredient, I'll never get out. But this ingredient - it is still more remote than freedom. It lacks the life-blood of a giant worm, a guatarru. The beast that guards the temple is said to be a guatarru. Thus Mephala, the Cruel, said. Such a misfortune. To get out, I have to go out. What a macabre joke!

Illumae's Honor

(0105B7ED)

Illumae's fame penetrated up into Akatosh's spheres and reverberated even in her great-grandchildren's lifetime. Her actions in the mist of Vvardenfell's willow lands when she fought against the primitive Dark Elves and their spears broke in two at the mere sight of her shiny shield, brought the Empire honor. Nevermore will Aedra walk the earth, but their history is etched in the history of the Order of the Dragon.
All of our loyalty to the Emperor.
[The yellowed parchment has long since reached the phase of decay. The writing can be deciphered only with the greatest effort. However, you think you can detect some numbers among the last lines.
2 - 4 - 1 - 6 -3
This is followed by another digit, which is not recognizable even with close scrutiny.]

Important Note

(0101CDFB)

[This note mainly concerns Alberto's shops, extending all over the desert and beyond. Type and quality of goods, prices, trustworthiness of the dealer, lavishness of storage, difficulty of the transport path - everything is neatly listed in keywords. Only a small entry stands out from it, it is not written as a keyword and it's probably not about business.]
... abandoned him, and if Mephalas will is on my side, they will already be here next month. Clemente will have hardly anything about it - that is, if he is even still alive. The new member is difficult to assess, and Clemente sits not so sure in his book den, as he accepts it.
Anyway, the tower is mine, and if Manuk sends his messenger, I will finally turn my back on this smelly dormitory.
Then I have to bring the stuff from Manuk's booth up here. The bay southeast of the old water fortress is far away, and one is vulnerable with full carrying baskets. I should probably gather a few slaves.

LetterCC1

(0104D27D)

To the
Champion of Cyrodiil
Without further ado, I would like to come to the point, for there is a thief in my custody claiming to be your follower. As much as I pray that he speaks the truth, I prefer to consider that it is a more exotic creature in your service, and offer you the chance, should this be the case, to pick him up outside the city gates, where this man who claims to be Relius Curio stands in chains awaiting punishment.
I hope not to have to find out that behind all this is lies. In the face of such a topic it would seem your judgment is not very good.
Yours faithfully,
Count Skingrad

LetterCC2

(0103FDA1)

Greetings, Champion of Cyrodiil,
The Lord Chancellor has tasked you to purchase the manor, but of course you should you worry about more important things than moving furniture and cleaning off cobwebs.
I'll let get ready your house while your summons the knights of your Order. Once you arrive here completely, everything will be prepared.
The Empire provides you 10,000 septims for your knights' bags fief monthly. This amount must not be exceeded.
Finally, I will submit to you a list of the ablest and most honorable knights in Cyrodiil:
-Clagius Infernian
--Origin: Cyrodiil
--Current Location: Anvil
--Position: Member of the Guard
-Relius Curio
--Origin: Cyrodiil
--Current Location: Skingrad
--Position: Gentleman of the Empire
-Sorla
--Origin: Morrowind
--Current Location: Chorrol
--Position: Soldier of the Mages Guild
-Thoralf Metschlund
--Origin: Skyrim
--Current Location: Bruma
--Position: Warrior from Skyrim
-Helgarth
--Origin: Unknown
--Current Location: Unknown
--Position: Unknown
--Note: Little is known about him. He often roams the Jerall Mountains. If a bundle of tied-up bandits lies before the barracks or a trader tells about an honest spirit who saved him from a group of marauders, it probably involves Helgarth. He would be a real asset to the Order of the Dragon.

Dear Sir Host,
I apologize, but I cannot pay for your delicious beer. I lack the gold. But after the fun conversation we just had, I cannot walk from your tavern without a word just as if nothing had happened.
Excuse me.
Please do not be angry with me.

She simply told me as if nothing had happened. I cannot forgive her, no matter that she has given me everything. Father is still alive. He must be out there somewhere, and I will most definitely not sit on my ass and wait for him to come to me. I'll look for him.
Most day laborers used to work in the silver mine far to the west. I will begin my search there. If it is true what people say, I always just have to follow the road.
Hold on, Father, I come to save you! Your Larsa may not be a great warrior, but she has...

(01002065)

ONE boy was born into this world that tolerates no life. A boy was born into this mud that covered everything, be it ever so beautiful. There was only the sun and the country itself wrapped in the sand, that no one could touch. At each step, your feet burned, and with look, your eyes hurt.

NINE moons she had carried him, then he had also wanted to continue in their care. Nothing could stop him now. His will was already strong, his limbs strong. His breathing deep in her belly, much deeper than yours. With all their might, she tried to hold him back until the pain became unbearable and she had embraced the powerlessness.
SEVEN years he stayed with her and she kept him well, but then he had to go. For years, the slavers had tapped at her, looked at her and the boy with greedy eyes, and had moved on, but now his head had become valuable enough. They tied a rope around his neck and dragged him behind her, into the city that loved the heads of young boys so.
FOUR weeks later he was sitting on a pedestal and the rope around his neck had turned into a chain. In the distance he saw the tower without a goal, at the foot of which his mother was still waiting for him. The sweat trickled ceaselessly from his forehead, as the midday sun was high in the sky and the slaves were given any shade. Whosoever went collapsed would be of no use in the mines under any circumstances.
FIVE men framed him as the collar opened with a few words and he was dragged away. Their masked faces are not looking at him, so he already believe he had fallen victim to a mistake. Suddenly he was black before his eyes, he was dragged so much by his collar, that the poor fabric tore and he fell to the ground. The sand was cool and smelled of banana trees.
He heard someone call his name. 'Ayhamli! Ayhamli! 'But he could not open his mouth. Since it has been dragged back to him and they dragged him across the floor, down a staircase. Under him it was suddenly soft, softer than the fine sand of the desert. He tasted the musty air of a cellar vault, heard the raised voices of angry slavers from afar, and finally his eyesight returned to him. He saw a blurred face bent over him. He immediately recognized his mother.
'Ayhamli, we saved you. We'll take you to a village on the other side of this desert.'
'We?' he thought, and finally slid into blissful unconsciousness.

Tablet1

(0102F6DB)

Once the sun was so great that the sand began to burn with the dawn. No one could even set foot outside, and the water level in the fountain fell more and more. The dead bodies that were laid out in earthen dead houses began to rot after a few days. The stench was unbearable, and soon those houses were built far out in the desert, far from the villages.
Fewer and fewer people then took the arduous journey to commemorate them, and Mephala was angry. Many temples were built at that time, because the people did not understand what had provoked the wrath of the daedric prince. They did not recognize the mockery inherent in their weakness. Soon after the water dried up in the fountain completely and the people suffered bitter hardship.
They prayed in their new temples and begged Mephala to show them mercy and to make the water flow again, but the Daedra remained silent, offended by the people's stupidity. People died - One by one, until only a handful of residents were left in Mephala's endless deserts. One of them, called Ayhamli, finally set out to the most remote corners of Mephala's Empire, into the land of no return.
Nothing more than a shabby tent and the last reserves of water in his pack. After a week, his water supplies were already running low, even though he only drank a few sips daily. All of a sudden and unexpectedly he met a nomad, who looked at him with watchful eyes. 'What are you doing out here?' he asked Ayhamli. 'I'm looking for water,' he replied.
'Water? That you will not find here. The cacti are dried up and the land sucked out. And all because you no longer honor the dead. Their souls burn on the way to the Lord of this world and he has not get a more growth for years. You have enraged him and done nothing more than console him with temples, which do nothing but enrage Mephala even more.
Ayhamli stood open-mouthed in front of the nomad. How did he know the thoughts of the Daedra? The nomad turned and walked away. When he had gone a few steps, he said, still not turning around: 'The wells are filled when the dead travel again.'
Ayhamli made his way home as fast as he could and although the sun seemed to burn hotter than before, he was light-hearted and his feet carried him across the burning sand like shooting stars across the sky.

Tablet2

(0102F6DC)

As Ayhamli returned to his village and told of his encounter with the mysterious nomad, many believed that this was Mephala - in another form and benevolent intention. But they drew new hope and were in good spirits that they could yet survive this hardship.
But how could they safely escort the dead to Mephala, for the sun was still so bright in the sky that the survivors could hardly endure more than two leagues out there. As only supposed to protect those who could not even touch? Uulami, a wise old man, finally proposed a way to shield the dead against the sand and the sun's rays.
Then they bathed the still rotting corpses in oils and secret essences, and then wrapped them in bandages, with which one formerly protected windows against the incoming whipping sand. They put those dead in the stinking, sweltering morgues far away from the villages, but threw high pyramid-like cairns over them. When that was done, two flasks of water were completely consumed and the fear was great.
But the very next day you could hear a distant murmur, if you threw a stone into the well. Some weeks later, the wells were filled again and Mephala's goodness proven once more.

Tablet3

(0102F6DD)

Many, many ages after the king appeared, there was a water shortage in the desert and he said: "My spirit shall fly higher than any other. And he should rest in Mephala's lap until the end of days." At these words. many of the common people ducked, because they feared Mpehala's wrath may come in the same moment on this king, who had spoken these blasphemous words. But nothing happened and the king himself confirmed that we continue his work.
He sent for scholars who might tell him how he could fulfill his wish. And there were many. Many who believed they could share the king's dream, but they were all rejected. Too abstruse theories, too presumptuous to run. One suggestion was that you should darken the sky for a day, that the spirit of the king could take off unhindered.
Another proposal was that the king's corpse, with the help of magic, would be transported into the spheres of the stars and beyond into Mephala's home. But the king was no fool and not only rejected these absurd proposals, but relentlessly lectured them to death. Word got around quickly, and even the waves of those who considered themselves scholars ebbed.
The rumor that this was Mephala himself who wanted to test the people arose. Eventually, however, one came to the king and made a proposal which he considered worthy. It was so simple and ingenious. The idea was to raise a huge hill, similar to the ordinary hills, under which the corpses were buried, as usual. But this huge hill should have edges so sharp that the sun would break it.
And so began the construction of the pyramid designed by Halamlar.

Tablet4

(0102F6DE)

The pyramid took a long time to build, and even with magic performed by the most powerful wizards in Mephala's kingdom, it was 45 years until the capstone was set. However, it was a bitter day on which this happened. For the king decided, at the age of 123 years, to put an end to his family and his entire court. Because he had been unable to set forth any progeny in the world.
Neither son nor daughter were born to him throughout the years. He recognized it as Mephala's wrath and the price he had to pay for his delusion. On the day the final stone was laid, the whole court entered the pyramid and Halamlar himself locked the door. The king lay in his chamber, just below the top of the pyramid, at the highest point of the heavens, to die. And his courtiers did the same.
I'm the last one here and write down what has happened, pleading to Mephala's goodness, and writing for the end of time, if it should come. And now also, Elgath, writer of the single Mer king, lays to rest. May these walls never be opened and our suffering never be desecrated.

Tablet5

(0102F6DF)

Born as Ptalkos, I rose from the depths of eternal sleep to rule. To rule over life and sand. I wanted to be Mephala's righteous servant and keep his word in high esteem. But my heart overtook my mind and my thoughtless action was revealed to everyone who was only willing to see my blindness.
I myself could not see how the wickedness directed me. And it fell upon anyone who stayed close to me. Jumped on my servants and consultants as a disease. Well, the day of my funeral, I finally understood that I was the one who sought to destroy the thoughts of my fellow human beings, not some demon.
Oh, Mephala forgive me! I'm going into this monument - Your pyramid - with my entire court, drawing in and sacrificing ourselves for you. Nothing is allowed to stay alive by the corrupt thoughts that I brought into the world.

Tachlan's Records

(01039473)

Tachlan - Records of a Genius

- - -
If I have calculated everything correctly, the statuettes are located in these caves. [The following is a description that helps you identify the position on your map.]
Only my mind, blessed by Mephala personally, could achieve this. All of Kathar laughed at me. They looked down on me because I 'was still wet behind the ears' and 'have to go through the school of life'.
But if I hold the greatest treasure of the desert in my hands, they will kneel before me whining and beg me to be allowed to lick my shoes. Who knows, maybe they'll even make me the new high priest?
My unprofitable servant will bring the six statuettes out of the caves, while I leave for the temple of Am'nan and make all the preparations.
After much searching and countless hardships of an especially uncomfortable nature, I have arrived at the Temple of Am'nan.
As soon as I hold the Soulblade in my hands, I must search for the two water temples. I MUST resist the temptation to use the dagger in combat. Only when the blade has bathed in Mephala's blessed water, can it be done safely. And according to tradition, this water is only there, in those two temples, preserved and guarded like a treasure.
The archives in the temple of Kathar did not give much information about the fate of the Water Temple. On the other hand, tradition delivered the location of the two temples exactly, thank Mephala. [The following is a description that helps you mark the position on your map.]

Talvanus' Note

(0101FE51)

[Here Talvanus has seemingly filtered out the most important precaution from the relevant book called Ancestral Curses and put it on paper.]
To get rid of one of the famous ancestral curses requires some special ingredients. First, of course, you need a part of the curse source (Note by Talvanus: In your case, a part of Mauren's body would probably be most appropriate.) - This should be relatively easy to obtain.
Then, of course, is also a part of the curse speaker - a few hairs or similar should suffice. (Note by Talvanus: The speakers of your curse are the ancestors; because you'll hardly find hair, you will have to be content with bone dust here, which also works reliably.)
Last you need the blood of the cursed. (Note by Talvanus: Somewhere in my house there should be an appropriate dagger which will facilitate the bloodletting.)
These ingredients must mixed and consumed under the presence unredeemed souls - also popularly called spirits - otherwise the desired therapeutic effect will not occur. (Note by Talvanus: You will hardly encounter spirits in Kathar itself, but east of town there is a place called 'The Gate of Spirits'. I am sure that you will have more success there.)

The Victim Coffins

(01048046)

[You have this note from Ihoar, the treasure hunter who has set up camp in the first room of the Temple of Tongues. She mentioned the victim coffins only casually, and you took this opportunity to pocket this note.]

The victim coffins are unique in their craftsmanship to the Temple of the Dead. Not that I would ever get to see the temple, but the reliefs and runes that I have studied in various ruins leave no doubt about this thing. The Temple of the Dead was built long before the construction of the simple and vile architecture of the Great Pyramid and comparable buildings. I can only guess at the filigree ornamental works and the fine art of gold processing, and yet it takes my breath away again and again when I see it.
The five victim coffins are mainly found in the northern part of the desert, which is why I suspect that the origin of the ancient people - or rather, their high culture - lived north of Akka'an. I refer here especially to the field of ruins west of Kathar, halfway to the assassins' area. Hazardous area. But there, in the ruins, which is flanked by two sphinxes, is now by far the largest discernible settlement of the Ancients, and also one of the victim coffins.
If you look hard enough, you will discover, half buried in the sand, the great sundial. Numerous works about the rituals that took place there have been preserved. Unfortunately, my last visit was years, if not decades, ago. All the new knowledge that I have accumulated over the field and the sundial ... I have not been able to check.
Note: I also suspect that the history of the Order of the Eternal Flame has a direct connection to the Temple of the Dead. Unfortunately, that's been nothing but a guess.

To Adhelene:
Adhelene!
Something terrible has happened! Your brother is sick, my love! You will will be picked up tonight at the city gates in the west. Please, be so good as to come home, that would be outstanding!
Your loving, missing you, lonely and infinitely worrying mother.

...is correct, there must be a connection to the Great Pyramid here. The villain has fleeced me five bottles of water for this information; let us hope that it was worth it.
I have not been able to discover more than this room with all the tablets. Most of it is illegible stuff; the ravages of time just gnaws at the legacy of these great, ancient architects. Only on a panel can I decipher a little. It says something about a crime against Mephala and an escape into death.
I'm still not clear to me how I can interpret this, but I think that the Great Pyramid might actually have something to do with it. I still have more ...

If the eye is directed towards the north,
the fortress yonder sees
the embrace of the crescent moon
spread long in the evening sea.
If the Surazal in the back flows,
intersects in the heart of the country,
the winds are calm and balmy,
the God feasts itself on the thirst.
When the sun has long since disappeared,
in red corset addicted to sleep,
the quiet sounds of the cold night
blatantly claw in the spirit.
Then will the hand involve the servant,
pierce the linkage,
the spirit will be free
the curse broken.

Watch Out!

(0106A769)

Iond said we should follow the instructions in the Temple of the Sun, and behold: the sword must actually be in the Great Pyramid. It could not have been worse. Every s'wit knows that, since no one enters.
Mephala wants to punish us. We're looking for a weapon that makes us powerful, and now he mocks us, as it is out of reach inside the pyramid. Protect yourself from Mephala's anger. The Lord of the Sun and all that walks below it. Great is His power.

Yessil's Invitation

(0105437F)

The meeting of the sword worshippers takes place in the Sun Temple. Put on the robes that I have given to you, otherwise you will not be admitted. And, by Mephala, do not forget to wrap up your face.
So we're even. Therefore, I forbid any further contact between us. Should you not heed this well-meant advice, Andalis' Men will take you.
Fare thee well.
