Oblivion:Unmarked Places
This article describes specific places of interest in Cyrodiil that are not marked on your map, do not appear on the compass, and aren't directly related to any quests. Some of the places in this list do not have official names, in which case unofficial names have been used.
Bandit Outpost[edit]
The outpost is southwest of Roland Jenseric's Cabin along the Blue Road. It features some partial stone walls that appear to be the ruins of a former building. Within the walls is a stone floor with a tan cup and jug. As the name suggests, the ruin is occupied by bandits.
Bralsa Andaren's Bedroll[edit]
The bedroll is just south of the Wayshrine of Kynareth to the north of Fort Dirich and east of Nonungalo. It is occupied by eccentric master Destruction trainer Bralsa Andaren, whom you will have to track down during the Destruction Training quest. The bedroll is free to use, although Bralsa will sleep next to you between 11pm and 7am.
Burned-Down Tower[edit]
The tower is south of Fort Irony on an island in the Niben River. Two trees grow on the island: a white tree with golden leaves, and a burned black tree with no leaves. Between the trees is the mysterious burned-down tower. Inside the tower is a non-respawning small crate containing clutter, a non-respawning torn sack of grain containing ingredients, and a respawning chest with a leveled lock containing minor loot. There are also two Nirnroot plants nearby: one is on the island, and the other is northeast of the bridge near three wooden steps.
Dark Grove[edit]
The grove is southeast of Cheydinhal and just to the right of the letter "o" in "Valus Mountains" on the map. In the center of the circle of large dead trees strewn with cobwebs is a pair of wooden spikes with impaled skulls flanking a non-respawning chest (with a small lit candle on top) containing minor loot. You may also notice some fireflies flitting about the grove.
Lonely Grave[edit]
The grave is south of Boethia's Shrine among the rocks on the side of a mountain. The site features a non-respawning chest containing minor loot and an unmatched view of the source of the Silverfish River to the south.
Mercenary's Camp[edit]
The camp is just west of Malada. It consists of an extinguished campfire with an empty cooking pot, three bottles of ale, and a respawning chest with a leveled lock containing minor loot. Although usually uninhabited, the camp is used by Claude Maric's mercenaries during the quest Nothing You Can Possess. During their brief stay at the site, three bedrolls which are free to use appear at the camp; however, they are removed partway through the quest.
Mountain View Camp[edit]
The camp is southeast of Gnoll Mountain and just south of Frostcrag Spire (if the Wizard's Tower official download is installed). On a clear day, the site offers impressive views of Bruma and the Jerall Mountains. It is possible this was the camp used by the wizard who designed Frostcrag Spire, as the Frostcrag Spire Memoirs mention he rested at a camp overlooking the Jerall Mountains when he was inspired to construct the spire.
The camp consists of an extinguished campfire with an empty cooking pot, a bowl, and a non-respawning chest containing minor loot; another extinguished campfire and a non-respawning sack containing clutter are a few feet down the slope to the northwest. If the Wizard's Tower official download is not installed, a short distance north of the camp on an elevated boulder is a flagless flagpole, with an extinguished campfire, a bottle of wine you cannot take, and a partly buried non-respawning sack containing clutter nearby. With the official download installed, these items are removed from the game.
Ruined Structure[edit]
The structure is southeast of Lipsand Tarn. It features a wooden bridge above a ruined stone tower with no roof. Inside the tower is a non-respawning sack containing gold and a non-respawning chest containing minor loot.
Shipwreck[edit]
The shipwreck is north of Beldaburo next to a small island connected to the mainland by a short wooden bridge in the Abecean Sea. Outside the ship on the sand is an empty open barrel, a shattered crate, a partly buried empty open chest, an open chest containing a silver tankard and a silver urn, and a respawning chest containing minor loot. A Nirnroot plant is also nearby. You cannot enter the wreckage.
Skingrad Graveyard[edit]
The graveyard is northeast of Skingrad and just north of Derelict Mine. A stone circle is in the center. The graveyard may be partially destroyed by an Oblivion Gate during the main quest, which will force some of the coffins to the surface.
The Northern Stairs[edit]
The stairs are northwest of Cloud Ruler Temple on the side of a mountain. At the top of the stone steps are two lit braziers and a non-respawning chest containing minor loot.
The Ruined "All Things Alchemical"[edit]
The ruined building is east of Memorial Cave along the Red Ring Road. The ruin features a well, three Resist Fire potions (two potions of insulation and one strong potion of insulation), two respawning barrels containing ingredients, a non-respawning sack containing gold, and two non-respawning chests containing minor loot. The area also features several unique trees not found anywhere else. (An intact store with the same name as that appearing on the sign outside the ruin exists in Skingrad.)
Bridges[edit]
Although the Old Bridge south of the Imperial City is marked on the map, there are many unmarked bridges in Cyrodiil. These bridges appear in a variety of sizes and designs. Grand bridges that cross the largest bodies of water are arched and made of stone, while crude wooden bridges cross smaller bodies of water. When crossing bridges, watch for Nirnroot plants and beware of bandits and highwaymen.
Bridge Locations[edit]
- Lake Rumare features two grand arched stone bridges: the bridge on the southeast side of the lake near Fort Alessia, and the bridge that connects Chestnut Handy Stables to Weye (known as "Talos Bridge" in the game files). Four smaller bridges are also found around the lake, with a pair of stone bridges east of Pell's Gate, another stone bridge east of Vindasel, and one wooden bridge southeast of Fort Empire (with a non-respawning jewelry box in an open coffin at the northern end).
- The Niben River and Niben Bay feature a few bridges. Although the river and bay form one long body of water, three small islands are connected to the mainland by small wooden bridges: one north of Bawn, one south of Fort Irony (leading to the Burned-Down Tower), and one north of Leyawiin. Another small wooden bridge is on the Green Road south of Bawn (with an underwater non-respawning chest), while a larger wooden bridge north of Fort Redman is guarded by a couple bandits.
- The lesser rivers, including the Corbolo, Larsius, Panther, and Silverfish, feature several bridges. Specifically, the Corbolo features one stone bridge between Crestbridge Camp and Fort Cedrian, the Larsius features two bridges (one stone bridge southwest of Anutwyll and one wooden bridge next to Bay Roan Stables), the Panther features one stone bridge northeast of the Mouth of the Panther (with a dead troll carrying an interesting note under the bridge), and the Silverfish features four bridges (one wooden bridge south of Fort Entius, one wooden bridge north of Peryite's Shrine, and one wooden bridge as well as one stone bridge west of the Imperial Bridge Inn).
Piers[edit]
There are many unmarked wooden piers and docks in Cyrodiil. These piers and docks may feature moored rowboats, coils of rope, wooden lampposts, and containers including barrels, crates, sacks, chests, jewelry boxes, and even coffins. As with bridges, Nirnroot plants often grow near piers and docks; although they are generally not defended, you might encounter the odd mud crab.
Pier Locations[edit]
- Lake Rumare features five piers: one northwest of Weye (with a non-respawning chest), one southeast of Fort Empire, one north of Sinkhole Cave, one north of Vilverin (with a respawning chest and a non-respawning jewelry box), and one outside the exit of the Imperial Prison Sewer.
- The Niben River and Niben Bay feature six piers: one east of Fort Variela (with eight respawning barrels, three respawning crates, a non-respawning torn sack of grain, and a respawning chest), one south of Culotte (with three respawning barrels and a respawning chest), one outside Fort Grief, one northeast of Fort Nomore, one southeast of the White Stallion Lodge, and one on the island with a bridge north of Leyawiin (with a respawning barrel of food, a respawning crate, and a rowboat holding a respawning sack of food, a non-respawning sack, and a respawning chest).
- The lesser rivers feature six piers: two south of Drakelowe (with an underwater non-respawning chest under the pier closer to the farm), one east of Wenderbek Cave, one west of the Imperial Bridge Inn (with three owned respawning barrels and three owned respawning crates), one west of Cadlew Chapel (with two respawning coffins), and one south of Black Dog Camp (with five respawning barrels and an underwater non-respawning chest).
- One pier is in the small lake south of Battlehorn Castle to the west of Chorrol (with an underwater non-respawning chest).
